Zita Mary Darcey Olson

Zita Mary Darcey Olson, age 87, of Torrington, died peacefully at her home on September 3, 2016. She was the widow of Gerald R. Olson, who passed away in 2007.

Zita was born in Torrington on July 5, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Zita (McCarty) Darcey and Joseph W. Darcey, a former Winsted mayor.

Zita grew up in Winsted and graduated from Gilbert School, class of 1947. She was employed in the offices of the Gilbert Clock Corp. and later by the Connecticut Light and Power Co. until her marriage in 1958.

After her marriage she continued working for the CL&P Co. in the Bristol office. She later moved to New Milford, CT. She loved spending time with her family and always enjoyed a good joke. In 1994 she and her husband moved to Torrington, a few years after her husband’s retirement from Northeast Utilities.

She is survived by her daughter Darcey and son-in-law John Markelon, of Litchfield, CT, her son Gregory Olson of New Preston, CT, two grandchildren, Matthew and Sierra Markelon, her sister-in-law Barbara Darcey of Winsted, and two nieces, Kathleen (Darcey) Miller and Andrea (Darcey) Ellinger. She is pre-deceased by her son, James Olson, and her two brothers Joseph J. Darcey and William J. Darcey.

Calling hours will be Friday, September 9, 2016, at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield Street, Torrington CT from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be private. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Winsted at a later date.
