Zenobia Zabielski

Zenobia Zabielski, 98, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017, at her home.

Zenobia was born December 6, 1919, in Thomaston, CT, daughter of the late Ezechiel and Czeslawa (Chodkowski) Zabielski.  She served her country during World War II with the US Army, honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant, and where she received the WAAC Service Ribbon, the American Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, and later re-enlisted during the Korean War with the US Air Force, where she received the National Defense Service Medal and the Occupational Medal (Germany).  She also served 25 years with the Reserves.  She  was employed as secretary to the State of Connecticut Superior Court Chief Justice Jay Rubinow, and then as secretary to Chief Public Defender James D. Cosgrove and Joseph M. Shortall.  She was awarded the honor of Secretary of the Year in 1973 by the Hartford chapter of the National Secretaries Association.

She is survived by nephews, Victor F. Nadaskay, Lucien Zabielski Douglas, and Gregory Zabielski, and several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Max Zabielski, as well as two sisters, Fannie Gaioni and Josephine Nadaskay.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, with the cortege leaving at 9:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.   Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday morning, December 27th, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
