Willie Lamar

Willie Lamar, 86, of Torrington, CT, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at his residence.  He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Ruth Lamar, who preceded him in death on May 28, 2020.

Willie was born January 29, 1935, in Atmore, Alabama, the son of the late Clarence and Minnie (Thames) Lamar.  He was employed by The Torrington Company as a machinist until his retirement.

He is survived by two sons, Gregory Lamar and his wife April of Bloomington, Indiana; Derrick Lamar and his wife Daniele of Mercersburg, PA; one daughter, Luvonney Rodriguez and her husband Rene of Ft. Meyers, FL; one brother, "Nikki"Lamar, of Hartford, CT; three sisters, Susie Johnson of Hartford, CT, Betty Lamar of Maryland, Velma Lindsey of Georgia; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one son, Clayton Lamar, one grandson, Meldrick Weaver and two sisters, Mildred Lamar and Gladys Lanier.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Workman Memorial AME Zion Church, 60 Brightwood Ave., Torrington, CT.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.  Relatives and friends attending funeral services are reminded that CDC recommendations for COVID prevention must be followed by social distancing and wearing protective face masks.
