William A. Julian, Sr.

Green Valley, Arizona formerly of Winsted, Connecticut

Bill, beloved and loving husband of Barbara (Teti) Julian and son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Marshall) Julian, recently passed away.

As a young man, sports were his passion.  He participated in numerous athletic activities, football being his favorite.  Bill often reminisced the by-gone days of Gilbert High School’s athletic achievements, particularly a stellar football season in the ‘50s when he was quarterback.  He was an avid NY Yankees’ fan and hailed the NY Giants.

After graduating Gilbert High School, Bill attended Bentley University in Massachusetts and later became an alumnus of what is now Mount Ida College, Newton, Massachusetts.

His work history included a brief stint in the mortuary business, 20 years as sole proprietor of Benny Nero’s Restaurant, and 25 years with the Town of Winchester, retiring in 2003 as Highway Superintendent.

One of Bill’s rewarding community efforts was coaching for Winsted’s youth football program.  He was always delighted when one of his now-adult players would call out a friendly, “Hello Coach.”  He was a volunteer firefighter with Winsted Aerial Ladder for 25 years,  a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #844, and a  participant in Winsted Athletic Club.  While a restaurateur, he often provided for those less fortunate.

As a father, his favorite memories were the toddler years - always relishing the playfulness of those so young.  His daughter, Tracy, describes her Dad as a man with spirit, charisma, athleticism, intelligence, and altruism.  He was her mentor to become a fun-loving parent and public-spirited adult.

Bill lived in Winsted, Connecticut, most of his life. Always a sun worshiper, he and his wife moved to Arizona where sunny days, year-round activities, and extensive travels were shared.

The last several years saw his vibrancy decline to a calm, distant spirit; he remained a caring and special man – never complaining, accepting this chapter of his life, and smiling to the end.

All who truly knew and truly loved him will feel a forever void.  For those who warmly shared in his life, love, and laughter, there will be many a memory to summon a smile.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, of 36 years and daughter, Tracy, he is survived by sons, Bill, Jr. (Franca), Barry (Sue); sister-in-law, Olympia Morelli; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  His eldest son, Guy, predeceased him.  Recently he was fortunate to enjoy FaceTime moments with great grandchildren, Blake and Colbie Toussaint - to whom he was “GG.”

Heartfelt gratitude is extended to our friend, Dorie, who remembered Bill throughout all the years; our niece, Loretta, and his “girlfriends” who cared for him with their hearts as well as their skills; and our loyal friends who stood near, if in voice only, offering support throughout this arduous journey.

Arrangements will be private.  Donations in Bill’s name may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation (wish.org)
