Vincent J. Genovese, Sr., 93, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Litchfield Woods. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan L. (Peyron) Genovese, who preceded him in death in 1997,
Vincent was born November 9, 1927, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Giuseppe and Assunta “Rose” (Zampaglione) Genovese. With his parents both immigrating from Italy, he was brought up in a family immensely proud of their Italian heritage, he carried that pride throughout his life, teaching the same to his sons. He taught his sons how to make homemade wine and Italian sausage which were two of his favorite activities, and relished in watching them doing what he loved to do. A caring and loving man, he always offered his home to host a family reunion. His family meant everything to him.
A mechanical engineer by trade, he owned and operated Genovese Manufacturing Company, Inc. He was an avid golfer and a former member of the Harwinton Lions Club. Fond of antiques, he also owned the antique store “Remember When”. Vincent loved to watch birds and enjoyed many days spent at the lake.
He is survived by two sons, Vincent J. Genovese, Jr. of Torrington, CT, Micheal Genovese and his wife Sharon of Harwinton, CT; four grandchildren, Brittany Genovese and her significant other Griffin Mitchell of Harwinton, Autumn Genovese and her significant other Calvin Kapule of Rapid City, South Dakota, Marcus Genovese and his wife Jamie of Custer, South Dakota, April Genovese Johnson and her husband Josh of Tuscan, Arizona as well as six great grandchildren. Everyone who knew Vincent loved and adored him. He will be missed by many family members, friends and associates.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (Our Lady of Hope Parish), 78 Litchfield Road, Harwinton, CT 06791. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington, CT. There are no calling hours. Relatives and friends attending the funeral services are reminded to follow CDC recommendations for COVID prevention, by following social distancing and wearing protective facemasks.
