Ugo B. Tonon, 88, of Torrington, CT, beloved husband of Dorothy “Dottie Ann” (Hoban) Tonon, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Ugo was born in Torrington on October 19, 1932, to Domenico and Palma (Gianello) Tonon. He graduated from Oliver Wolcott Technical School in 1950 and went on to proudly serve his Country with the United States Air Force during the Korean war from 1955 to his return in 1958. It was then he met and married his beloved wife of 65 years. Ugo was employed with Torin Corporation in sales, and later went on to work with Bihler of America, running their Torrington branch. Retiring early, Ugo enjoyed playing many rounds of golf with his friends, going for morning coffee at Dunkin Donuts and being an active member of the Torrington Elks Lodge #372 for many years. Summer days were spent planting and caring for his prized tomatoes or building a piece of furniture in his wood shop for one of his children/grandchildren. There wasn’t time when a visitor would come to the house to find him sitting in his chair, a dog on his lap, a scotch in his hand and the television on. Always one to show hospitality he met everyone with an offer of a cold Coca Cola.
A parishioner of St. Francis, Ugo had a deep faith in God, and it was that faith that carried him on his journey home.
Along with his wife, Dorothy, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Susan and her husband Farley Hubbard of Colebrook, granddaughters Elaina Puzinski and her fiancé Ronald Bartenstein of Torrington, Elizabeth Puzinski of Hartford, grandson, Daniel Cusati of Winchester and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Tonon-Puzinski and his sisters, Renata Whitney and Olga Suydam.
Ugo’s dedication to his family was legendary. There was never a time when he didn’t remind his girls “Love you More.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 160 Main Street, Torrington. There are no calling hours. Relatives and friends attending the Mass are reminded that facemasks are required to be worn while inside of the church. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to an animal shelter of your choice. Condolences may be sent to Ugo’s family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com
