Susan "Assunta" (Amicone) Alicata, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016, surrounded by dear friends and family. She was predeceased by the love her life Joseph Alicata, having been married for 63 years.
Born in Vastogiardi, Italy, Province of Isernia, she traveled with her mother to the United States at the age of six years old and attended local schools, graduating from Torrington High School. She was employed by the Torrington Company and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in the S.P.D. department until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the YMCA, AARP, the Sullivan Senior Center, Silver Belles and Beaus, St. Francis Cabrini Society, and was a communicant of St. Peter Church. She enjoyed life to the fullest, from cross-country skiing to cooking and baking for her family.
She is survived by a daughter Rosanne Alicata and her husband Frank Slogeris of Kensington, CT; a son, Joseph S. Alicata and his wife Veronica of Hartland, CT; a sister, Carmela “Dolly” Carbone of Torrington; a sister-in-law, Marge Amicone of Winsted; grandchildren, Mark and spouse Curtis, Joseph and wife Lauren, Celia and Mia, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dominic Amicone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in St. Peter Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.
