Simone M. Lemelin Hayes, 97, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, in Florida. She was the wife of the late Cornelius Hayes for 36 years, who preceded her in death on December 21, 2017, and also of Maurice E. Lemelin, the father of her 5 children.
Simone was born in Beecher Falls, VT, the daughter of the late Omer and Rose (Paquette) Lachance, one of 13 children. She attended school in Beecher Falls and Canaan, VT. Three sisters moved to Winsted, CT in the 1940’s, Jane (Lachance) Clark, Lillian (Lachance) Lefebvre and Simone.
While in Winsted, Simone worked locally for many years at Winsted Hosiery, Son-Chief-Electric, Holiday Handicraft, Mason Silk, Waring and last but not least The Torrington Company, where she met Cornelius. They enjoyed life and traveled extensively in The United States and abroad. She loved to play Bingo and card games. After selling their home in Winchester, they decided to live full time in Florida
Simone is survived by five children, Sandra L. Vaill (Stephen) of Winsted, grandson Glenn S. Vaill, great grandchildren Stevie Marie and Dudley L. Vaill: Maurice “Moe” Lemelin, Jr. (Sandy) of Norfolk, grandson Maurice Lemelin, III, granddaughter Suzette Woods (Rick), great grandchildren Ethan and Emily: David “Red” Lemelin, granddaughter Elizabeth Bedard (Ed), great grandsons Nathan and Ben; granddaughter Sarah Lemelin: Richard Lemelin (Kim) of Norfolk and grandson Chris Lemelin, great grandchildren Cole and Ellie; granddaughter Ashley Irwin (Patrick) great granddaughter Evelyn: Thomas Lemelin (Jacqueline) granddaughter Julianne Belsky (Hannah) and great granddaughter Quinn Simone. She was predeceased by her grandson, Dudley L. Vaill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 31 Oak St., Winsted. Burial will be at the family’s convenience. There are no calling hours.
