Sharon L. Barbero

Sharon L. Barbero, 77, of Winchester Center, Connecticut, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, from the Powassan virus, an extremely rare tickborne disease. She was the wife of the late Eugene Barbero.

Sharon was born October 11, 1946, in Winchester Center, CT, the daughter of the late Elmer and Thelma (Parrott) Hurlbut. She was employed by the UConn Health Center with the Creative Child Center until her retirement. She was a member of the Park Pond Club.

 She is survived by a son, Matthew R. Laukaitis (Rachel Long) of Winchester Center, CT; a daughter Christina Niziolek (Mark) of Burlington, CT; a stepson Michael Barbero (Linda) of North Carolina; a brother Gary Hurlbut of Winsted, CT; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Emily Barbero; grandchildren, Zachary Niziolek (Zoe), Evan Niziolek, Brett Long, Justin Emmons, , Patrick Casey (Erin), Joseph Gordon (Nancy) as well as great grandchildren Krystina Long and Liam Gordon.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 12:00 noon at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Cook Funeral Home.
