Sebastian J. “Nonie” DiMauro, 94 of Torrington, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Litchfield Woods. He was the beloved husband of Josephine (Avampato) DiMauro for 68 years. Mr. DiMauro was born in Winsted on December 13, 1922, son of the late Joseph DiMauro and Mary (Avampato) DiMauro Zapulla.
Mr. DiMauro was a lifelong resident of Torrington. He served his country in the United States Army during Operation Avalanche at Salerno Beach in World War II. He retired from the Standard Plant of the Torrington Company where he was the night superintendent for several years. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.
Mr. DiMauro is survived by two sons, David and wife Laura DiMauro of Bristol CT and Richard and wife Holly DiMauro of Torrington; one brother, Joseph and wife Dorothy DiMauro of Litchfield, CT; two sisters, Rose Tobin Moscaritolo of Torrington CT and Margaret Barredo of Torrington CT; grandchildren, David and his significant other, Marissa, Angela and husband, Jay and Jessie and wife, Jen; one step granddaughter, Vanessa and husband David; great grandchildren, Evan, Gracie and Ella as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Millie Lopardo and brother, Sam DiMauro.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home with full military honors accorded.
