Santo Calabrese

Santo (Nonno) Calabrese, 94, of Torrington, CT, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of the late Leontina (Lombardi) Calabrese and Maria (Lombardi) Calabrese.

Santo was born November 1, 1922, in Forli Del Sannio, Italy, son of the late Michele and Maria (Lombardi) Calabrese.  He immigrated to the United States with his family during 1965.  He was employed by Hotchkiss Brothers as a Mill worker for several years, until his retirement.  He enjoyed gardening, wine making, canning, wood carving, family picnics and Sunday dinners.

He is survived by seven children, Angelo Calabrese (Lina) of Torrington, Maria Calabrese (Giovanni) of Sulmona, Italy, Domenica Tedeschi (Mario), Anna Amoroso, Bambina Iannacito (Giovanni), Salvatore Calabrese (Deborah), Michael Calabrese, all of Torrington; special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Angie and John Lombardi, Maria Lucia Lombardi of Canada, Adelmo Lombardi of Canada;  fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by four sisters, one grandson, Mark Tedeschi, son-in-law, Gerrard Amoroso, one grandson-in-law, Jeffrey White, and a special family member, Eva DiPlacito.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 24, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington.  Everyone is asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church.  A private burial will be held in Italy.  Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
