Samuel Jay Gath, Sr., 90, of Torrington, CT, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Valerie Manor. He was the beloved husband of Celeste (DiPippo) Gath.
Mr. Gath was born November 25, 1923, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Samuel and Jessie (DiVencenzi) Gath. He served his country with the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 93 rd Fighter Squadron during December of 1945. Among the awards and decorations he received were the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was employed by B.T.C. Aerospace as a Tool & Die Maker until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
In addition to his wife Celeste of 66 years, he is survived by two sons, Samuel Jay Gath, Jr. of Burnham, ME, Robin Gath of Torrington; two daughters, Holly DiMauro and Deborah Gath both of Torrington; one sister, Gloria Goodwin of Winsted; four grandchildren, Jessica and Samuel Joshua Gath of ME, Jesse DiMauro and Mark Welch both of Torrington, as well as several nieces and nephews.
