Samuel J. Avampato

Samuel J. Avampato, 88, of Torrington, passed away on March 3, 2016, at Hartford Hospital. Born on July 24, 1927 in Torrington, he was the son of the late Charles “Cutty” and Anna (Amico) Avampato. He was the husband of M. Irene (McMahon) Avampato.
Sam served his country as a member of both the United States Navy and Army. He was later employed as a member of the U. S. Postal Service as Assistant Post Master.
In addition to his wife, Irene, Sam is survived by two nieces and a nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, with burial following at St. Francis New Cemetery. A calling hour will be held prior to the Mass from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.
