Ruth E. (Babrauskas) Roelofs

Biruta “Ruth” E. (Babrauskas) Roelofs, 92, of Torrington, CT, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Peter J. Roelofs.

Ruth was born July 8, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Adam and Agnes (Bluges) Babrauskas.  She lived in Torrington since the age of 5.  She was employed as a Secretary with the Bearing and Engineering Department of the Torrington Company, from where she retired in 1983.  She was a volunteer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.  An active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where over the years she taught Sunday school, was a member of the altar guild, sewing group, church fair and senior group.

She was a talented artist who sold her work at area craft shows, her daughter’s store, “Country Marketplace” and area gift shops.  She was an avid gardener who passed on her love of creating and gardening to her children.  Her family was the most important treasure in her life.

She is survived by one son, David and his children, Jason and Amy Roelofs; daughters Karen Marciano and daughter Jessica Marciano, Wendy Roberts, and children Danny, Ryan and Michael; two great grandchildren, Liam and Owen Roberts, also two nieces and several cousins.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 837 Charles St., Torrington, CT 06790
