Ruth L. (Sokolik) Phelps, 85, of Torrington, CT, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Valerie Manor. She was the wife of the late Frederick M. Phelps.
Ruth was born November 29, 1929, in Torrington, CT, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Mlynar) Sokolik. She was employed by Hartford National Bank as a Teller. A woman of deep faith, she was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. An avid New York Yankee fan, she also enjoyed watching the Men’s and Women’s UCONN basketball teams. She loved to travel, and spend time with her nieces and nephews and their families.
She is survived by three brothers, John Sokolik of Sylvania, GA, Frederick Sokolik of Ocala, FL, Bob Sokolik of Torrington; two sisters, Jane Pennington and Marilyn Killingbeck, both of Torrington; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Sokolik, Edward Sokolik, Andrew Sokolik; two sisters, Ethel Scherwer, Arlene Walsh; and her companion, Joe Narkiewicz
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015, with the cortege leaving at 10:00 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 64 Berry St., Torrington, for services at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
