Ronald L. Nurnberg, 84, of Canaan, CT, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Litchfield Woods.
Ron was born July 27, 1938, in Mendota, IL, the son of the late Harold and Marie (Kaufman) Nurnberg. He was an interior decorator employed by J C Penney for 15 years.
When not working at his passion of interior design, He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and maintaining his home. He also enjoyed cooking, canning, reading and sewing. He made many of his own window treatments and furniture slip covers. He also enjoyed wall paper and creating “unique” uses of it in his home.
He and his wife would spend many, many hours in the kitchen canning dill pickles and beets, homemade ketchup, sun pickles, and corn relish – among other things – all harvested from their vegetable and herb gardens. They even made use of the dandelions in the lawn to make dandelion wine. Nothing went to waste! They also had an assortment of fruit bushes and trees for making jams, jellies and other yummy baked goods. He could also be found helping with Christmas cookies and holiday nut breads, all made from scratch, dough and all.
He enjoyed holidays, socializing and entertaining with family and friends. He and his wife were very active members at their Lutheran church in Cornwall.
He had a unique personality and was loved by his family and friends. Many family members have expressed their memories of family parties with Uncle Ron and Aunt Nancy. He will be missed for sure and there aren’t enough words to express our loss. We all will miss him and hope that all of you keep your memories in your heart forever.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy (Smigala) Nurnberg. Two sons, Ronald L. Nurnberg II (Kristina) of Harwinton, CT, Timothy Nurnberg of Morris, CT, three brothers, Harold “Punk” Nurnberg Jr. of Mendota, IL, John Nurnberg of Oglesby, IL, Jim Nurnberg of Mendota, IL., two sisters, Sue Nurnberg of Mendota, IL, Karen Tomfohrdes of Farmington, MN; two granddaughters Meg and Tori Nurnberg of Litchfield, CT, as well as several nieces and nephews.
