Ronald Phillip Martin, 84, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Anita (Malone) Martin for 58 years.
Ron was born in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Philip and Mary (Beres) Martin.
He served in the United States Army after graduating from Torrington High School and Morse School of Business. His passion for numbers led him to a career in Finance where he retired from Patterson Oil Company as the Chief Financial Officer. He volunteered in many capacities for St. John Paul the Great Parish and School and served as Treasurer of the St. Peter’s Holy Name Society for many years.
Ron met the love of his life at a Catholic Young Adult Club Officers meeting where he was elected Treasurer and Anita was the Secretary. They soon married and together raised two daughters.
Having achieved Eagle Scout status, he always shared his knowledge and ability to mentor those around him.
From his competitive earlier days as the center of the THS basketball team, his love of sports continued through his passion for skiing and golf enjoyed primarily with his wife Anita, grandsons, and brother Jim. You could always find him cheering for his grandsons at their sporting events or watching any UCONN basketball games. Ron enjoyed time with his family, especially Sunday dinners and vacations.
Ron is survived by his wife, Anita Martin, his daughters Susanne LaMothe, her husband Greg and grandsons Nicholas and Adam LaMothe, Melissa Wallace and her husband Matt, his brother James Martin and wife Blanche, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Martin and Robert Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Paul the Great Parish, 160 Main St., Torrington, CT 06790.
