Robert "Bob" James Del Vecchio, Sr.

December 7, 1933 — June 5, 2022

Torrington, Connecticut

Robert “Bob” James Del Vecchio, Sr., 88, of Torrington, CT, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022.  He was the beloved husband of the late Lenore (Gelormino) Del Vecchio for 53 years.  Bob was born on December 7, 1933, to the late Dominick and Beatrice (Sileo) Del Vecchio.  He is survived by his sons, Robert J. Del Vecchio, Jr. (Ellie) of Wake Forest, NC, Tom Del Vecchio of Torrington, CT, and daughter Laurie Parrott (Jerry) of Torrington, CT; grandsons: Robert J. Del Vecchio III (Valerie) and Nick V. Del Vecchio (Bailey); great granddaughter: Violet Del Vecchio.

Bob was very passionate about sports growing up in the west end; he spent his formidable years playing sports with the neighborhood kids.  Bob graduated in 1951 from THS and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball for three straight years.  He was football captain and quarterback his senior year, and a member of the undefeated 1948 squad as a sophomore.  He was a guard during the basketball season and a hard-hitting outfielder in the spring.  In 2001, he was inducted into the THS Athletic Hall of Fame.  Bob moved on to play freshman football at the University of Connecticut before transferring to Penn State University.  Bob returned to Torrington and went to work for Northeast Utilities for 30 years before retiring.  He continued to play in recreational softball and basketball leagues before turning to the game of golf as his main recreational outlet.  When he was not out at the golf course, you could find him spending time with his son Tom, or watching his grandsons compete on the football or baseball fields.

A devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather, Bob channeled much of his energy towards the overall wellness of his family, which has been beset by challenging disabilities.  A respected member of the Torrington community, Bob’s efforts on the home front have been an inspiration to many, and he will be greatly missed.
