Robert O. Westberg of Torrington, Conn., passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at Hartford Hospital. He was 76.
Bob was born Nov. 3, 1943 in Torrington. He was the son of the late Oscar and Helen (Samok) Westberg.
Bob was a jack of all trades and a master of many. In addition to being a gifted storyteller and outdoorsman, he owned and operated Bob Westberg Painting for four decades. He was a Harley man, a highwayman, a mountainman, a fisherman, and a captain until the end.
An experienced navigator of the New England high seas, Bob never missed the opening day of fishing season or the chance to tell a really big fish story. He loved sleeping on the beach, camping with his daughters on Cape Cod, and could eat his weight in whole-belly clams.
Bob loved riding his Harley-Davidson. He never missed the opportunity to take the scenic back road which would often lead to a hole-in-the-wall tavern, a good prime rib dinner, and bluegrass music.
Bob was in the Army National Guard and was a life-long member of the Eagles Club, where he brought laughter to a wide circle of friends and always had a seat at the bar. In the months leading up to his death, Bob founded the Hilltop Bar in his garage where there was always an empty chair for anyone in need of a friend.
Bob’s legacy will live on in his devotion to his family. He leaves behind his wife, Susan (Ricci) Westberg, four daughters, Dawn Wax of Jackson, Ga., Jennifer Davis of Hinsdale, N.H., Katharine Fitzpatrick of Bluffton, S.C., Morgan Munn of Matthews, N.C., six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the Westberg family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com.
