Robert F. Bollard, Sr., 83, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away January 10, 2019, at Brandywine Living at Litchfield. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Senack) Bollard for 60 years.
Bob was born September 29, 1935, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Alfred and Bertha (Neidt) Bollard. He served his country and was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy in August of 1957, and then went on to serve in the Reserves until 1961. He was employed by CL&P, as a Lineman and Line Instructor, until his retirement in 1996.
A lifetime resident of Torrington, he was a longtime member of the Elk’s Club, the Boy Scouts, the NWCT Seabee Association, and the Seabee Veterans of America. He volunteered with the CL&P crew installing the Christmas Lighting in Torrington for 19 years, and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
He enjoyed reading, watching a good movie, and working on projects in his barn. Bob loved tennis, target practicing, boating, swimming, and was always ready to help neighbors and friends, he was happiest when helping his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Joanne, he is survived by three sons, Robert F. Bollard, Jr., and his wife Keli Ann of Middlebury, CT, John Bollard and his wife Elizabeth of Middletown, RI, Timothy Bollard and his wife Darcy of Waterbury, CT; his sister, Karen Bertoli and her husband Richard of Torrington; five grandchildren, Robert F. Bollard, III, Grace Bollard, Cathleen (Foss) Ryan and her husband Dan, Allison (Foss) Curry and her husband Ryan, and Christopher Foss, and three great grandchildren, Madelyn and Carter Ryan and Rosemary Curry; a sister-in-law Connie Bollard of South Carolina, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Bollard, and sister, Joan Campanelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 160 Main St., Torrington. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT 06790.
