Robert E. (Bob) Collins, of Harwinton, Connecticut passed away on February 5, 2025, in Naples, Florida. He was the beloved husband of Jean Penrose (Russell) Collins.
Born on May 9, 1939, in Waterbury to the late Edgar and Helen (Beane) Collins, Bob grew up in Watertown. He graduated from Watertown High School and Western Connecticut State University before dedicating 38 years to teaching music In the Thomaston Public Schools. His passion for music was woven into every aspect of his life, inspiring generations of students who carried forward his love for the arts. Beyond his career in music education, Bob was deeply involved in his community, contributing to public safety, health, and the arts. He never met a stranger--welcoming everyone with warmth and kindness. He cherished family gatherings and spent many joyful moments in Harwinton, Cape Cod and Florida. Those who knew him will remember his generous spirit and unwavering friendship. He was proud to have helped to found the fine Arts Connection of Thomaston which continues to inspire the residents of Thomaston. His bass voice was heard by many when he sang with the Goshen Mighty Festival Singers and several church choirs
In retirement, Bob remained active in public service, serving for over 30 years as a member and over 20 years as chair of the board of the Torrington Area Health District. He was also a former chief and member of the Harwinton Ambulance Association and a former member of the Harwinton Westside Fire Department. He taught EMT classes in the northwest corner of Connecticut.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his daughters, Sarah Fishel (Adam) and Rebecca Lindsey (Michael); his daughter-in-law, Theresa (Terry) Collins: and his five cherished grandchildren, Gregory Collins, Joseph Collins, Ethan Fishel, Mason Fishel, and Katherine Lindsey. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betsy Niemeier, his brother-in-law, Rick Russell (Suzanne) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his infant son, David Russell Collins, his daughter, Kathryn Redfield Collins; and his son Robert (Rob) Winslow Collins.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the United Congregational Church on Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 AM.
