Robert J. Alfano, 84, of Torrington, CT, passed away at home during the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 13, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Lopardo) Alfano. Uncle Bobby, as he was known, was born on July 18, 1934 in Torrington, the son of the late Pasquale and Elvira (Pellegrini) Alfano, Sr.
He left high school in his senior year to join the United States Air Force in 1954 where he was stationed in Korea. Upon being honorably discharged in 1958, he started working for his brother, Patsy, as a mechanic at Alfano’s Service Station. He then moved on to work for his brother, Ray, as a mechanic/parts manager until his retirement at age 80.
Uncle Bobby loved classic cars, Sudoku puzzles, NASCAR, putzing around the yard with his yellow Lab, Molly, and yelling at his brothers during their raucous Monday night card games. We would be remiss if we neglected to mention his undying love of good Italian food.
In addition to his wife, Rita, he is survived by three daughters, Susan Alfano of Torrington, Tracy (Alfano) Organschi of Litchfield, and Lynn Alfano of Torrington; two granddaughters, Braeden and Olivia Organschi; two brothers, Fred of Victor, Idaho and Ray of Torrington; one sister, Antoinette Marchetti of Torrington, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Alfano; son-in-law Marcus Organschi, and three brothers, Al, Steve, and Patsy Alfano.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the mausoleum at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 236 E. Pearl Rd., Torrington, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Little Guild, 285 Sharon-Goshen Turnpike, West Cornwall, CT 06796 or The Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
