Richard L. Siddell, 86, of Torrington, CT, died peacefully at Valerie Manor surrounded by his family on August 9, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Gloria (Bonasera) Siddell for 63 years.
Rich was born December 13, 1929, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Chad and Gertrude (McCaul) Siddell. For many years, he was a member of the Connecticut National Guard, and then proudly enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in the 43rd Division, stationed in Germany with the occupational troops and received various Medals of Honor. He owned and operated Town & Country Painting for many years, until his retirement. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid walker, fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Connecticut Hunting Club, the NRA and of the Sullivan Senior Center. He most enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren who lit up his life as he was so very proud of them. Rich will always be remembered for his kindness and compassion for others.
In addition to his wife Gloria, he is survived by two daughters, Lori Greco and her husband Joe of Litchfield, Lisa VanAllen and her husband Fred of Harwinton; four cherished grandchildren, Ashley Longo and her husband Paul, David Greco, Aubrey VanAllen, Brooke VanAllen; a brother-in-law, Mickey Bonasera and a sister-in-law, Rita Bonasera. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Russell and also two sisters, Loretta Goodwin and Peggy Weed.
Rich’s family wishes to express gratitude to the Valerie Manor Staff, his many caregivers, VNA Nursing and especially Hospice for their support and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
