Reno J. Mottai, 93, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Litchfield Woods. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (Asselin) Mottai for 63 years, and who preceded him in death on November 23, 2021.
Reno was born April 17, 1928, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Peter and Anna (Marafino) Mottai. He was employed by the US Post Office for 30 years, until his retirement. Prior to working at the post office, he served his country with the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return he was a bricklayer, working with his brother John.
He is survived by three sons, David Mottai (Punika) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Peter Mottai of West Hartford, CT, Daniel Mottai of Nashville, TN; four daughters, Terry Corbo (Rick) of Torrington, CT, Michele Costanzo (Bill) of Bradenton, FL, Julia Mottai of Torrington, CT, Mary Maiorino (Pat) of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Doris Sparzo of South Carolina as well as many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother John Mottai and a sister Mary Vermiglio.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home. All attending calling hours and the Mass are requested to wear protective face masks while inside Cook Funeral Home and St. Peter Church for Covid prevention protocol.
