Peter Carmine Minton

August 20, 1973 — July 21, 2020

Barkhamsted, CT

Peter Carmine Minton, 46, passed away July 21, 2020, from esophageal cancer.  He was born August 20, 1973 in Hartford, CT.  He leaves his three children – Zachary, Jay and Kylie Minton; his parents Willard and Patricia Minton; his sister and brother-in-law Maresi and Timon Brown and their children Henry, Maria and William; his sister and brother-in-law Katherine and Philip Tackett and their children Julia and Sam.  He also leaves his significant other Wendy Schibi, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Peter was predeceased by his grandparents – Dorothy and Carmine R. Lavieri, Jacoba Minton, Alice Minton and Bill and Ruth Minton; his cousins Gregory Simons and Katy Brain; and his uncles Bill Brain and Henry Minton.

Peter lived most of his life in Barkhamsted and Winsted.  He was an accomplished musician, playing trombone and bass trombone in many local theatrical production orchestras as well as other ensembles, notably The Harmonious Brass Choir and the Capital Winds.  From a classic Frank Zappa song to a rousing patriotic march to a well-played pipe organ, he loved listening to and playing loud music.  Peter loved  playing cards and board games with his family and friends, and almost never lost at the family marble game.

A skilled machinist, Peter spent most of his working life at Sterling Engineering, the company founded by his great-grandfather, with whom he shared a birthday.  He was the only 4th generation Lavieri descendent to have made a career at Sterling.  He never wavered from his philosophy of working hard to ensure that everything he did was “Whatever’s best for the company”.

Peter’s family would like to thank Dr. Brandt, Nurse Tina, and all of his team at The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Torrington for their superior care throughout his illness, as well as the hospice care team with Foothills Visiting Nurse Association.  Memorial donations may be made to the Closer to Free Fund – Office of Development / Yale-New Haven, CT 06508-9979; or to the Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills – P.O. Box 1801, Litchfield, CT 06759.  A private graveside burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Pleasant Valley, CT.  A memorial service will be held at a future date when it is safe for large group gatherings.
