Paul Cappellina passed away on April 24, 2014, peacefully at his home in Torrington, Connecticut. He was born in Torrington on July 11, 1930, son of the late Pietro (Paul) Cappellina and Stella (Pipa) Cappellina, and brother of the late Matilda (Cappellina) Gonella.
Paul served his Country during the Korean War as a Private and Corporal in the United States Army. He received two Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations and National Defense Service Medals, respectively.
Paul worked over 35 years at the Torrington Company and finished his career at Mark Industries. He was recognized as a trusted colleague and friend by leadership and the people he supervised as a Forman and Manager. It was not uncommon for Paul to lend his ear, hand or dollars to help a worker in need.
Paul was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed talking to people from all walks of life. He was an Elk’s Club Member, and a constant at local high school sports games, bingo halls and other Torrington events. During his early years, Paul managed Alfano’s successful semi-professional basketball team.
Paul is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Donna (Coombs) Cappellina; a daughter, Paula Cappellina of Waterbury; a son, David Cappellina of Silver Spring, Maryland and his fianceé Ritzie dela Rosa; and two grandchildren Anna and Matthew Cappellina. In addition, Paul is survived by many nieces and nephews that he had the deepest admiration for, including his first niece and very special confidant, Marlene (Gonella) Canzio of Jupiter, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
