Nona J. (Binette) Swanson

Nona J. (Binette) Swanson, 72, of Torrington, CT, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017.  She was the beloved wife of Charles “Chuck” Swanson.

Nona was born March 1, 1945, in Bristol, CT, daughter of the late George and Mary (Lewandowski) Binette.  She was employed by Torrington Brass and Steel with Inside Sales, until her retirement.  She was later a longtime volunteer at the Veterans Service Office until the present day.  An avid reader, Nona loved to walk on the beach where she collected seashells and sea glass, and walking to hear the sound of babbling brooks.  She also enjoyed target shooting with her husband, flower gardening and especially nurturing “their Anniversary” plant, a flowering hydrangea.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a true friend to all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Chuck, she is survived by two sons, Daniel J. Klonoski of Michigan, Michael T. Klonski (Cynthia) of Haddam, CT; one brother, Raymond Binette (Janet) of Torrington; one sister Dianne Meada (Al) of Myrtle Beach, SC; step-grandchildren, Amber Case, three step great grandchildren, Melanie, Ethan, Dominic as well as several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.  She was preceded in death by one step-son, Christopher Swanson, and one brother, George Binette.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington.  Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Francis Church.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.
