Nicholas C. Russo, Sr., 90, of Torrington, CT, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Wolcott Hall. He was the beloved husband of Ann (DiVita) Russo for 64 years.
Nick was born December 15, 1926, in Winsted, CT, son of the late Dominic and Madeline (Pasquarella) Russo. After attending the Gilbert School, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1943 at the age of 17. He served aboard the USS Aircraft Carrier "Boxer" and was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon arriving back home, he attended the Porter School of Design in Hartford, and was employed by the Torrington Company as a Draftsman, until his retirement in 1989. An avid fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and UCONN Basketball, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, walking and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by three sons, Nicholas C. Russo, Jr. of Brookfield, CT, Steven M. Russo of Torrington, Robert D. Russo (Marlene) of Torrington as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor (Russo) Gelormino.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, with the cortege leaving at 11:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Winsted with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as well as Tuesday morning from 10:30 am. to 11:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
