Nancy A. (Werwin) Getschmann

Nancy A. (Werwin) Getschmann, 74, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away November 29, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her family.  She was the beloved wife of Horst Getschmann for 47 years.

Nancy was born January 7, 1942, in Kansas City, MO, daughter of the late Charles D. and Lily (Beardsley) Werwin.   She studied art and education at the University of Bridgeport and held a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree.  Before becoming a homemaker she worked as a secretary at Sikorsky Aircraft.

She loved flowers and gardening.  She was home every day to greet her children when they got off of the school bus and to help them with their homework.  She always had dinner ready for her family on time.  She doted on and spoiled her grandchildren.  She loved baking cookies at the holidays and was famous for her cheesecake.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Robert A. Getschmann of Exeter, NH and one daughter, Sharon P. Mason of Honeoye Falls, NY, one brother, Keith D. Werwin of Norwalk, CT; five grandchildren, Sarah, Megan, and Colten Getschmann, Jessica and Madeline Mason and two nieces, Michelle Rybnick and Victoria Wish.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery, 23 Temple Court, Stratford, CT.
