Muriel E. (Gilroy) Popham 94, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Keystone. She was the wife of the late Richard Popham.
Muriel was born February 23, 1930, in Framingham, MA, the daughter of the late Rupert and Sadie (Brown) Gilroy. She was employed by Thompson Wire as an office clerk, and later by H&R Block as a preparer and validator. She was also owner and Broker of Muriel Realty for many years She was a Past President of the Litchfield County Multiple Listing, and a Past President and longtime member of the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary, where she also volunteered in the Gift Shop and was a loyal volunteer to the Red Cross with the Blood Mobiles.
She is survived by four children, Richard Popham, Jr. of Torrington, CT, John Popham of Buffalo, NY, Timothy Popham (Anne) of Southington, CT, Sandra LaRoche (Joe) of Torrington, CT; one brother, Rupert Gilroy of Florida; nine grandchildren, Eric (Dawn) Hannon, Matt Hannon, Shelby (Lou) Lamoureux; Daniel, Sadie, Nathan and Megan Popham, Jeff (Stefanie) LaRoche and Justin (Darci) LaRoche, nine great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Keystone Place for the loving kindness and care for Muriel during her stay.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 12 noon at the Harwinton Congregational Church, 1 Litchfield Road, Harwinton, CT 06791. Burial will be private .
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harwinton Congregational Church Book of Remembrance.
