Michael E. Walsh, age 25, of Torrington, CT, died suddenly on January 4, 2015, while pursuing his passion for running.
He was born July 12, 1989 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT, to Mary Ann Walsh of Torrington, CT, and E. Stephen Walsh of West Hartford, CT. Michael attended St. Peter's Elementary School in Torrington, CT, St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol, CT, and Fordham University in NY, NY. He graduated from Fordham in May, 2012 summa cum laude with a double major in Physics and Biology. He had recently been accepted to medical school and planned to attend St. Louis University Medical School in St. Louis, MO, in August, 2015. While preparing for medical school, Michael was employed as a private tutor in NY and CT.
In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his maternal grandmother, Edith Lupucy of Torrington, CT, his paternal grandmother, Marion H. Walsh, of West Hartford, CT, his aunt and uncle, Barbara and Dan Wood, and cousins Lily and Ethan Wood of NY, NY, his aunt and uncle, Leslie and Carolyn Walsh, and cousins Brian and Erin Walsh, of Peachtree City, GA, and his beloved cats, Amanda, Oliver, Morris and Allegra. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Michael S. Lupucy, and paternal grandfather, Dr. Edward F. Walsh. He also leaves behind many other beloved family members and friends.
Michael was an avid runner, beginning with cross country in high school. He was a member of the Fordham cross country team for five years, and was training to run his first marathon in April 2015. Michael was an active participant of St. Peter's Church in Torrington, including serving as a lector and as an altar server. He was a volunteer at the Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen and Operation Overflow, all in Torrington. He also enjoyed performing a stand-up comedy routine at various clubs in NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 10 am at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, CT. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, or Susan G. Komen.
