Michael Ducatelli of Torrington passed away peacefully on December 6, 2015, surrounded by his wife and children. He was the loving husband of Jean (Masciarelli) Lynn Ducatelli for 29 years.
Mike was born September 15, 1922 in Torrington, CT, son of the late Joseph and Madeline Ducatelli. He attended Oliver Wolcott Technical School. Mike was a veteran of World War II, having served as a master sergeant in Patton’s 3rd Army, Fifth Infantry Division in England, Ireland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He landed in Normandy, then on to St. Lo, to the Plains of France, to the Moselle River, to the Siegfried line and then the city of Metz. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and then on to Luxembourg and Belgium. His division went on to cross the Rhine River and was the first troop to arrive in the city of Frankfurt and then proceeded on to Germany. Mike received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (with German Bar), 5 Battle Stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Battle of the Bulge Medal. He was employed as a machinist with The Torrington Company for 28 years. He was a member of the Fifth Infantry Division Society, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, St. Peter’s Holy Name Society, AARP and the Leisure Time Club. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Craig and her husband David, of Ames, Iowa, and a son, Michael Ducatelli and his wife Ann, of Apple Valley, MN; two step-daughters, Donna September and her husband, Albert, of Torrington, Lisa Cianciolo and her husband, Paul, of Harwinton, CT, and nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lena (Zambon) Ducatelli, his sister, Mary Kules, and his brother, Rocco Ducatelli.
Michael made the world a better place just by being here. He was a kind and loving man who will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
