It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Melissa Ann Balsamo, who left this world peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 51 in Missouri. Born on May 16, 1973, in Torrington, Connecticut, Melissa was the beloved daughter of Henry and Patricia Balsamo. She was a shining light in the lives of those who knew her, known for her infectious laughter, unwavering kindness, and captivating spirit.
She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Henry Balsamo, who passed before her. Though she mourned his loss deeply, Melissa carried his memory with her always.
Melissa grew up in Torrington, where she developed a passion for beauty and fashion from an early age. She attended The Torrington Beauty Academy, where she honed her skills as a talented hairstylist. Her talent and eye for style allowed her to make a lasting impact on her clients, many of whom became dear friends. Her artistry was not just a profession but a genuine expression of love and care for others.
She is survived by her loving mother Patricia Balsamo of St. Charles, MO., her companion of many years, Troy Dennison of Torrington and her siblings, Cara Balsamo & wife Tricia Riiska of Vernon, CT and Joseph Balsamo of Seattle, WA. and many friends who were like family to her. Melissa was also the proud godmother to Ms. Miah Deleon of Thomaston whom she loved to spend time with and brag about. Melissa was a loving mother to her beloved German shepherd Leo, and Pussy Kitty, whose playful spirits brought immense joy to her life. Throughout her life, Melissa was deeply connected to her friends and loved to spend time with them.
Melissa’s life was marked by her many hobbies and interests. She had a profound love for sports, especially softball, which she played with enthusiasm and vigor. Fishing was another of her passions, providing her with a sense of peace and connection to nature. She often spoke fondly of these moments spent outdoors with friends.
As we remember Melissa, let us celebrate the beauty she brought into our lives and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, reminding us of the importance of kindness, creativity, and the bonds of family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT to St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. where family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter, and tears in honor of Melissa’s incredible life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her name, reflecting her generous spirit and love for helping others. Rest in peace, dear Melissa. You will always be in our hearts.
