Mary (Blandino) English, age 82, of Torrington, passed away on November 28, 2021, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of George English, recently celebrating their 60th anniversary.
Mary was born on August 29, 1939, in Torrington, CT, the only child of the late Frederick and Elsie (DeMichiel) Blandino.
She was a graduate of Torrington High School. Following the birth of her two children, Mary returned to school and received her degree in library sciences from Northwestern Connecticut Community College. She became the librarian at Torringford Elementary School where she worked for many years, making many life-long friends there, and cherishing all the time spent together. She retired in 2004 when her granddaughter Olivia was born in order to spend as much time as possible with her, creating so many beautiful memories. Later in life, she volunteered at the Harwinton Historical Society and Park Avenue Thrift Shop.
Her interests were many. She was a passionate reader, participating in a monthly book club. She loved to cook and experiment with new recipes that she would see on the cooking channel. She appreciated a good martini and never passed up an opportunity to discuss financial investments. She watched countless classic movies. She very much enjoyed musical theater productions such as Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. Every year she looked forward to attending the Warner Theater production of The Nutcracker with her “Sweet Pea”, granddaughter Olivia. Above all, she cherished the time spent with family and friends and sharing family stories with those she loved.
Besides her husband George, she is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and husband Sandro Bortolon, her beloved granddaughter Olivia Bortolon all of Canton, and son Christopher and wife Josie English of Winsted.
