Lucille Bernice (Zordan) McGowan, 83, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021, at her home. She was the wife of the late Frank J. McGowan.
Lucille was born August 8, 1938, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Emilio and Antoinette (Genovese) Zordan. Lucille was the first-born grandchild of Dominic and Carmela Genovese of Waterbury, the eldest of 200 plus Genovese cousins. She attended Torrington public schools and graduated from Torrington High School in 1956. Lucille graduated from the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She married the love of her life, Frank J. McGowan, May 14, 1960. She worked as a nurse until she became a mother in 1963.
Lucille enjoyed family gatherings and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals and concerts. She was a frequent visitor to The Sullivan Center, where she enjoyed the various social events, Bingo being her favorite.
She is survived by one son, Thomas McGowan of Torrington, CT; three daughters, Maria McGowan of Essex, CT, Brenda Paniati and her husband David of Torrington, CT, Marcie McGowan-Hajam and her husband Said of Katonah, NY; two brothers, Emilio Zordan and his wife Linda of SC, Joseph Zordan of MA; one sister Palma Spunt of Chestnut Hill, MA; a daughterin-law Brenda McGowan; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Tom Jr., Cierra, Nicholas, Michael, Owen, Brendan, Adam and Elias. She was preceded in death by one son, Frank J. McGowan, Jr. and a daughter-in-law LaRoyce McGowan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Protective face masks are required to be worn while inside of St. Peter Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home. The family requests that protective face masks are worn while inside Cook Funeral Home.
