Lucia Vanzy (Italia) Basquin, 91, of Torrington, CT, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at Valerie Manor. She was the wife of the late Louis R. Basquin.
Vanzy was born March 16, 1924, in Winsted, CT, daughter of the late Santo and Carmela (LaDuca) Italia. She owned and operated Style Beauty Salon which she opened with her sister in 1943. A longtime volunteer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, she was a founding member of the Torrington Women’s Club, and a member of the Torrington Historical Society. Vanzy was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Council of Women, and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was a devoted daughter to her mother, a wonderful baker, and was well known to walk downtown pushing her cart, and attending programs at the Torrington Library.
She is survived by two sons, Richard C. Basquin of Wilmington, Delaware, Vincent J. Basquin (Sharon Chase) of Torrington and a daughter, Roberta A. Basquin of Winston Salem, NC; a niece Annmary Passantino and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Salvatore Italia and her sister Ann Greco.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, with the cortege leaving at 8:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be held in the spring at Forest View Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
