Lillian (Zemchak) Trivella passed away early Sunday morning, December 18, 2016, at Litchfield Woods in Torrington. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Katherine Zemchak. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Mary Zemchak of Torrington and Lorraine Yurchak of Planstville.
A lifelong resident of Torrington, Lillian was born July 6, 1922, and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, attending the Parochial School. She was very active in her church, participating as president of the Children of Mary association. She achieved her goal of crowning the Blessed Mother at Sacred Heart Church on May 20, 1951. Lillian was a soloist for the Church Choir for many years.
She was a graduate of Torrington High School, Class of 1939. From there, she pursued her degree in Hairdressing and Cosmetology at the Hartford Regional Technical School, graduating in 1941 and starting a career that spanned over seventy years. After graduation, she went to work at the Mary Lou Beauty Salon in Torrington, and later bought the business renaming it Lillian’s Beauty Studio in 1952. Her shop had two locations in Torrington over the years, until she located the shop in her home on James Street in 1957. Over the years, Lillian worked with four generations of local families. Lillian’s specialty was human hair wings and hairpieces that were often custom fitted to the customer. She loved her profession and didn’t stop working until 2015.
Lillian was very active in the Torrington Women’s Club. She was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, recognized as a Seventy Five year member on November 13, 2011. She was also very active in the Connecticut Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association, Unit #3.
Lillian is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leno Trivella; a son, Marc Trivella of Torrington; and a daughter, Lenore Yanchak (John) of Harwinton. She has three grandchildren, Michelle Magyar of Torrington, Christopher Magyar of Bristol and Marc Magyar of Torrington, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.
