Leonard P. Franks, 82, of Torrington, CT, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Litchfield Woods. He was the husband of Ruth (Falk) Franks for 59 years.
Leonard was born July 8, 1935, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Leonard and Albertina (Kindleburgh) Franks. He served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Among the awards and decorations he received upon his Honorable Discharge in January of 1957 were the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as a truck driver by Dwan and Company for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Torrington Elk’s Lodge. A car racing fan, he especially loved to watch NASCAR.
In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by three daughters, Dawn Pietrefase and her husband William of Torrington, Darcy Franks of Torrington, Dena Franks of Harwinton; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Geena and Marissa, as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice Opley.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Torrington Animal Control Office or to The Little Guild of St. Francis.
