Ladislav “Larry” L. Lukes, 90, of Torrington, CT, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Evelyn (Burriesce) Lukes for 62 years.
Larry was born November 23, 1925, in Manhattan, NY, son of the late Charles and Nellie (Vanek) Lukes. He was employed by CL&P as a Field Operations Technician until his retirement. He served his country with the Merchant Marines during World War II, honorably discharged during August of 1946 when he received the Victory Medal. He then reenlisted with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict as an Engineer from January of 1951, honorably discharged May of 1952. A member of the Sullivan Senior Center, he was an avid gardener, liked the challenge of crossword puzzles, and enjoyed fishing and boating.
In addition to his beloved wife Evelyn, he is survived by two sons, Christopher L. Lukes and his wife Karen of Torrington, Peter P. Lukes and his fiancée Dianne; one daughter, Kathy Jurkowski and her husband Frank of Westhampton, MA; five grandchildren, Kilean Jurkowski, Kara Jurkowski, Alexis Muscaro, Kayla Lukes, Jared Lukes as well as two great grandchildren, Hunter and Haylee Muscaro.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
