Judith M. Pleau, 79, of Torrington, CT died Friday, July 23, 2021, following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Holyoke, MA to the late Bruno and Viola Markoski, she received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Massachusetts. A lifelong learner, Judy enjoyed reading, bird watching, doing logic problems and was a fierce Scrabble player. She was an excellent cook and famous among friends and family for her Christmas cookies. Also a music lover, she sang and played guitar for her young daughters and was a season ticket holder for the Metropolitan Opera for many years. At the age of 40, Judy impressively began her career in as an editor for educational textbooks used in hundreds of schools throughout the country. We have no doubt she is looking down and fastidiously proofreading this obituary. In retirement, she participated in local government and was a member of the Elks Lodge #372 in Torrington.
She is survived by her three daughters, Christine McCloud, Melissa Russell and Anne-Marie Pleau, two grandchildren, Thomas and Laura McCloud, and siblings, Patricia Homrok and John Peter Markoski. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Pleau. A celebration of Judy’s life will take place on Saturday, July 31, at Cook Funeral Home at 82 Litchfield St. in Torrington from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a brief service. At the family’s request, facemasks or vaccination are required for all people attending.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the Friends of Torrington Library, 12 Daycoeton Place, Torrington, CT 06790
