Joyce Lamoin

June 19, 1941 — July 26, 2024

Torrington, Connecticut

Joyce Lamoin (Giorda), 83 of Torrington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Friday, July 26, 2024. Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, James, of 61 years.

Joyce was born on June 19, 1941, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Mario and Mary (Carotenuti) Giorda. In addition to her husband, she is survived by son James and wife Elizabeth Lamoin of Torrington, daughter Paula Lamoin of Torrington, granddaughters Rebecca Lamoin of Torrington, Kelly Lamoin and fiancé Jonathan Maldonado of Bristol. Joyce is also survived by her sisters Virginia (Bob) Micket of New Mexico, Linda (Richard) Zukowski of Harwinton, sister-in-law Jean Giorda and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her younger brother Mario “Vin” Giorda.

Joyce is a graduate of Torrington High School, class of 1959. Joyce worked for Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company before starting her family. As her family grew, she worked for the Torrington Public School system for 20 years as a bookkeeper, but her greatest joy was taking care of her two grandchildren, whom she had the privilege of seeing daily as they grew up.

Joyce was an avid, strategic, tennis player, competing in leagues locally for many years. She enjoyed bowling, drawing, and collecting coins and records, especially Elvis. She attended music festivals across the country to see her favorite artists perform, get their autographs and collect more records. She loved classic John Wayne movies, so much so that she recently was selected to receive a framed shirt from one of his movies. When not enjoying traveling for festivals, she traveled the country with her family in her customized Chevy van, often to Cape Cod or Florida.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Valerie Manor for the love and support they had for Joyce over the last couple years. The family couldn’t have asked for more kind and compassionate people to care for their beloved wife/mother.

Calling hours for friends and family are Friday, August 2, 2024 from 6:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday August 3, 2024 from 8:30am-9:30am at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.
