Joseph F. Ledda, 82, of Southington, CT., passed away August 23, 2016.
He was born June 25, 1934, in Torrington, CT, to Peter and Josephine (Tino) Ledda. He attended Torrington schools where he excelled in sports. After high school he joined the U.S. Army became an airborne trooper with the 101st Airbourne Division and proudly served his country in the Korean War. Upon completion of his service Joe joined Local 478 I.U.O.E. as a crane operator. As a proud union man for over 60 years he was known as "Tower Joe" and was instrumental in the construction of many buildings and skyscrapers in the state of Connecticut. Joe loved sports and devoted much of his time to coaching youth basketball and baseball in Torrington.
He leaves his wife Elaine (Ballard) Ledda of 40 years; his sons Mark, Tom (Mi Suk) and Peter (Gloria); his step daughters Marie Berman (Paul) and Amy Stedman (Todd);his grandchildren Brooke, Dustin, Joseph, Alex, Jaclyn, Paul, Curtis, Jonathan, Cade, Madison, Adam and Reid; four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Antoinette Rouleau and Rose Landers, sons Joseph Peter (JP) Ledda , Paul Ledda, and a grandson Michael Berman.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 27, 2016 at 9:30 am. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Francis Church. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
