Joseph J. Barbieri

Joseph J. Barbieri, 85, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017.   He was married to Dorothy (Dew) Barbieri on September 8, 1956, and who preceded him in death.

Born July 23, 1931, in Torrington, CT, he was the son of John Barbieri and Catherine (Gelormino) Barbieri.  Mr. Barbieri’s father’s family was from Breganze, Province of Vicenza in Northern Italy, and his mother’s family hailed from Southern Italy, near Naples.

Joe was employed by Plume & Atwood in Thomaston, CT, and later at Aerospace in Bantam, CT.  He enjoyed fishing, picking wild mushrooms and dandelions with his friend Tony Pagano, cooking Italian food, of which included Polenta, Gnocchi and Risotto.   He also played trumpet for St. Peter’s Drum Corps and the Vagabond Drum Corps, and liked to attend retreats at the Holy Family Monastery.

He is survived by four children, Robert J. Barbieri, John A. Barbieri and his wife Teresa Barbieri, Catherine J. Cook and her husband Edward Cook, Thomas J. Barbieri and his wife  Danielle Barbieri, all of Torrington; seven grandchildren, Whitney,  Zachary, Emily, Nicholas. Ethan, Mia, and Deanna.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
