Colebrook, Connecticut

Joseph J. Alciati, 90, of Colebrook, CT, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Annmarie (Mango) Alciati.

Joe was born October 22, 1932, in West Hartford, CT, and raised in Torrington, the son of the late Silvio and Columba (Parducci) Alciati.  He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1953, until the time of his honorable discharge in 1955.  Among the awards and decorations he received were the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was employed by O & G Industries for 36 years, until his retirement as a Construction Labor Foreman.

He was a member of the V. F. W. #296 for thirteen years, a member of the Winsted Elk’s Lodge #844 for fifty seven years, and a member of the American Legion in Sandisfield, MA for forty nine years.  He enjoyed participating in Town meetings, and in his later years, served the Town of Colebrook as a Second Selectman.  He spent his time relaxing by tending to his vegetable garden, enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing.

He is survived by three sons, Frank Alciati (Roger Columbie) of Colbert, GA, Michael Alciati (Tara) of Colebrook, CT, Joseph “JJ” Alciati, Jr. of Colebrook, CT; one daughter, Juliana Strattman (Larry) of Ashely Falls, MA; one brother, Fred Alciati of Farmington, CT; three grandchildren, Cayla Strattman DiBona (Jeff DiBona), Chad Strattman (Martina Sprague), Isabella Alciati; one great granddaughter Vivien DiBona, as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julie Fierravanti and Mary Jean Thomas.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT.  Committal services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter Cemetery Mausoleum, 236 East Pearl Rd., Torrington, CT where full military final honors will be accorded.  Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colebrook Senior Center, P. O. Box 5, Colebrook, CT 06021 or to the Undermountain Golf Course, Youth Golf Program, 274 Under Mountain Road, Copake, NY 12516.
