Josef K. Antoniak

Josef K. Antoniak, 84, of New Hartford, CT, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016.  He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Gerwatowski) Antoniak for 58 years.

Josef was born October 31, 1931, in Wola Uhruska, Poland, son of the late Walter and Sophia Antoniak, and who with his father was raised by his step-mother Elizabeth.  He served his country during the Korean War, honorably discharged during October, 1956, receiving the National Defense, the Occupational Medal from Germany, and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was employed by the Torrington Company as a Senior Machinist for more than 46 years, until his retirement.  While his first priority was his family, he also had a great love for cooking, and enjoyed playing cards, especially poker.  He enjoyed fishing, both vegetable and flower gardening, as well as watching UCONN men and women’s basketball, and astronomy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Joseph J. Antoniak and his wife Christine; one daughter, Darlene S. Smith and her husband Terry, all of Torrington; one sister, Stella Stary of Torrington;  two brothers, Steven Antoniak of Maryland, Michael Antoniak of Torrington;  his grandchildren, David Greenwood, Danielle Greenwood, Brandon Antoniak, Kerra Maurer, Sarah Smith, Joshua Smith, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors.  Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent to the Antoniak family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com
