John “Jack” A. Pollutro, 79, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Angela (Finello) Pollutro for 56 years.
Jack was born April 29, 1939, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Alfred “Freddie” and Louise (Giarnese) Pollutro. He served his country with the US Army, enlisting in 1958 and Honorably Discharged in 1962 during the Vietnam Era, when he received his Parachutist Badge. He was employed by the Torrington Board of Education as a Custodian until his retirement. Jack was a member of the Germania Society, a fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball and of the NY Yankee Baseball. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and making homemade wine. A lifelong communicant of St. Peter Church, he was also a member of the St. Peter Holy Name Society.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by four sons, John and his wife Carol of Torrington, Mark of Torrington, Todd of Torrington, David and his wife Dawn of New Hartford; five grandchildren who were the lights of his life, Kelsey, Kyla, Ana-Marie, Nicholas and Christina Pollutro; one sister, Diane Pollutro of Watertown; one brother-in law, Anthony Finello and his wife Dana of Harwinton; two step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one niece, Julie Loring, as well as many friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
