John “Jack” F. McCarthy, Jr., 53, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, September 4, 2021, with his wife by his side after a brave battle against ALS. He was the beloved husband to Christine (Nappo) McCarthy for 27 years.
Jack was born January 11, 1968, in Richmond, VA, he was the son of Maureen (Twomey) and John F. McCarthy, Sr., of Juno Beach, FL. He was a graduate of St. Francis Assisi School, Torrington High School, and Bryant University where he met his wife, the love of his life. He prided himself in working at J&M Sales, his family's business for many years alongside his Dad. Jack was a family man who's kindness and humor touched many lives within the City of Torrington and beyond. Some of Jack's fondest memories were as a volunteer coach to Little League, the Babe Ruth League, and the Elk’s Basketball League. You could always find Jack as a proud father in the stands of his children's sporting events. In addition to his family, Jack always enjoyed time with his friends golfing or talking politics and sports, specifically the Red Sox and the Patriots. He served on the Board of Directors for the United Way and was a member of the Connecticut Beer Wholesalers Association.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by his four children, Caitlin McCarthy, John F. McCarthy, III, Cara McCarthy all of Boston, MA, and Julia McCarthy of Torrington, CT; one brother, Michael McCarthy of Pittsburgh, PA; one sister Patricia McCarthy and her husband William Jones of Bethesda, MD, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Deirdre McCarthy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church (St. Louis de Montfort Parish), 49 South St., Litchfield, CT 06759. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Anthony Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington, CT. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT 06790. All attending funeral services are requested to follow CDC guidelines by wearing protective face masks while inside St. Anthony’s Church and Cook Funeral Home.
