John J. Wey, 86, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Pearl (Phelps) Wey for 59 years.
John was born November 17, 1938, in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Oscar and Elsie (Lorman) Wey. He grew up in Saugerties, NY before settling down in CT. John was an Engineer by trade, receiving his degree from RPI. After 30+ years, he retired from the Torrington Company as a Superintendent and was a proud member of their Foreman’s Club. John was an avid Yankee and NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending antique car shows, especially the one in Rhinebeck, NY. He loved anything “Ford” related. If John wasn’t outside working in his yard, you could find him tinkering inside his house or reading the newspaper. He enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sporting events and was one of their biggest fans. John was a long standing member of the Harwinton Volunteer Ambulance Association and a prior Eucharistic Minister. Two of his favorite mottos were “stay alert” and “necessity is the mother of invention”.
In addition to his wife Pearl, he is survived by his three children; Barbara Siani (Kevin) of Plainville, CT, Edward Wey of Waxhaw, NC and Theresa Ponte (William) of Harwinton, CT; one brother, Edward Wey (Ingrid) of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, John Siani, Eric Siani, Emily Wey, Brandon Wey, Frank Albreada-Ponte, William Ponte; two great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
John’s family would like to extend a special thank you to: John Cooney who provided Dad with friendship and amazing care over the past 13 months. He always had a “to-do” list ready for your arrival and enjoyed your company and outings; and Bob Hart for his long lasting friendship and support. Dad welcomed your visits and friendly debates between Ford and Chevy, and enjoyed sharing memories of The Torrington Company.
