John L. Maffucci

John L. Maffucci, 93, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at his home with his devoted family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of Ketta (Rossi) Maffucci for 48 years.

Mr. Maffucci was born February 11, 1921, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Zabat) Maffucci.  He served his country with the United States Army during World War II, where he was a Medical Technician in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe.  Among the awards and decorations he received upon his honorable discharge in November of 1945 where he was working with the 58 ^th General Hospital were the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.  He retired in 1986 from O & G Industries as a cement mixer driver.  He was a member of the Torrington Elk’s Lodge #372, and a former member of the John Cavalieri Post.  An avid NY Giant and NY Yankee fan, he also enjoyed watching the UCONN Girls and Boys Basketball teams.  John was a wonderful man who cherished his wife and family and who was a kind and caring friend to all.

In addition to his beloved wife Ketta, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa O’Neill and son-in-law Bill of Torrington, and his grand dog, Emma.  He is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Coppola of Florida, Mary Dusi of Bristol; one brother, Angelo Maffucci of Torrington, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Michael Maffucci and four sisters, Florence Carillo, Rose Pietrafesa, Edith Wootton and Lucy Sparks.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Gottfried and Dr. Kruger, and to the V.N.S. Hospice caregivers who showed exceptional attention and compassion towards John’s comfort.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded.  Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
