John J. Hickson, 97, of Torrington, CT, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, at his home. He was the husband of Jennie (Gerardi) Hickson for 71 years.
John was born October 1, 1921, son of the late James and Anna (Maher) Hickson. He served his country with the United States Army Air Force, during World War II. Among the awards and decorations he received upon his honorable discharge in 1945 were the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars. He was employed by the James Hickson Building Company, and later retired from the Dwan & Company as a Sales Representative. He was a 4th Degree member of the Fr. Duggan Assembly, a lifetime member of the Torrington Elk’s Lodge #372 and was a former choir member of St. Thomas of Villanova Church and also was a former member of the Silver Belles and Beaux.
In addition to his wife Jennie, he is survived by one sister, Catherine Hickson Champagne of Vero Beach, FL, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Hickson, Robert Hickson, and three sisters, Margaret Rambone, Ann Chepiga, and Mae Machier.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 26, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church (St. Louis de Montfort Parish) 71 North St., Goshen, CT 06756. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
